What Is an IFSC Code?

An IFSC (Indian Financial System Code) is an 11-character code that uniquely identifies a specific bank branch in India. It is essential for electronic fund transfers through NEFT, RTGS and IMPS โ€” without the correct IFSC, money cannot be routed to the right branch.

The code has a clear structure: the first four characters are letters identifying the bank, the fifth is always 0 (reserved for future use), and the last six characters identify the specific branch. For example, in SBIN0000123, "SBIN" is State Bank of India and "000123" is the branch.

This IFSC finder lets you look up a branch's IFSC code, or identify the bank and branch from a code you already have โ€” useful when adding a beneficiary, verifying account details, or filling in a cheque or transfer form. Always double-check the IFSC before sending money.
